The Prophet #221 (repeat) (31 August 2007)
Tonight Ghost Whisperer returns to its regular Friday time slot for a repeat showing of episode 221, “The Prophet.” It is the beginning of the second season finale, where the various messages Melinda has been getting all this season start to come together in a way we can understand them. In particular, a shadowy figure called The Prophet gives Mel visions that show several children know what she can do and are trying to warn her of a coming disaster. (Check out the episode page here.)
After tonight’s show, we will have to wait three weeks for the second part of the finale, “The Gathering”, on September 21. The week after that the third season of Ghost Whisperer kicks off with “The Underneath.” Until then, we will just have to content ourselves with the release of the season 2 DVD set for September 18 according to Amazon.com.

Re-viewing this episode really cleared up a lot of confusion I felt the first time it was aired. This time I could kind of sort out that Melinda was getting messages from two different sources, and that was also confusing to her. And the viewers -for once - had more information than Mel because we saw the various children, each obsessed with an accident they had survived. We only got a glimmer of that significance - we knew they were somehow all connected to Melinda -- but we were still missing The Big Picture. Everything was pointing to Delia being doomed, and what a red herring that turned out to be.
Rick and Jim both come through with a lot of support for Melinda. We were worried that Rick was going off to Peru just when Melinda was finding him useful, and their big hug in the middle of this episode really cemented their relationship. She empathizes with Rick's pain (no pun intended) over Kate's infidelities and he in turn figures out he can't desert her. We have to appreciate that they can help each other. Rick makes contributions nobody else can, and helps us see the context.
