What’s coming in season three of Ghost Whisperer?

What’s in store for Ghost Whisperer in season three? The cast and crew are keeping things under wraps for now so we don’t know very much. But some information has leaked out from the Grandview set. For example, we know that Ann Archer is coming back to play Melinda’s mother Beth in the first episode of season three, “The Underneath” (click here for episode information). Other cast members include a young Melinda and a young Beth so it is very likely we are going to learn something about their family history.

We also know that professor Payne is going to be a full time cast member. And another character, Justin Yates, who takes some pictures in the first episode which show something about Mel’s abilities is being added to the show. We also know from interviews that we are going to learn a lot more about Mel’s past and her unique connection to Grandview. Jennifer herself has said that Melinda didn’t choose to move to the town – the town chose her!

What do you think season three holds for us?

I'm so pleased that GW was able to get Anne Archer back as Mel's mother. I note that there is also a "young Beth" in the cast list, so I hope that we will get some backstory and some insight into Beth's gift and her rejection of it. We know from the first season that Beth got really mad at her own mother (Melinda's grandma) for initiating Melinda into the knowledge of her powers. I'm wondering if Grandma learned something from whatever happened between her and her own daughter (Beth) when Beth was a girl finding out about ghost-whispering. Oh, and I'm guessing the plot will thicken since Melinda's father is slated to appear in this episode as well.

All we know from the end of season 2 is Gabriel is working with MG'S DAD to use "collected" spirits to block the light and keep cross-overs from taking place. What we don't know is WHY? Gaberiel was locked up in a mental hospital and has ZERO friends other than spirits, whom he has collected and partied with. We know from the flight attendant's expierence that cross-overs are still possible if you "think happy thoughts" so I'm wondering if the Tom Gordan/Gabriel conncetion is more misguided tinkering than outright evil intentions....3 days till we know more!

Talon -- it's good to see you are able to post (it's a long story that we can explain at another time).

We think Gabriel is pretty much a dark spirit or possessed by one. But judging by the way Tom Gordon was sucked away when Mel gripped the chalk, we wonder if he isn't being forced against his will to help the dark side. It looked very similar to the way Andrea was being used against Melinda in the first episode of season two.
